Virtual Stowaway on a Research Cruise: Scientist's Stateroom

Staterooms below decks can accommodate two scientists or crewmembers each. Some room have a private shower and toilet (or "head"); others, like this one, share a head. A foldout desk allows for a small workspace-- though in rough weather Kelly's laptop computer would need to be lashed in place. Boards like the one on the near side of the lower bunk help to keep those sleeping (or trying to) in their beds as the ship rolls and pitches.
